We're Not in Kansas Anymore....

During a quiet moment at the shop the other day I was flicking through some magazines and came across an article in which Pantone declared 2013 the year of Emerald! Must admit I was pretty excited about the possibility of seeing this colour creeping through into all aspects of fashion and design....

Angelina Jolie wore this gorgeous Atelier Versace dress to the Golden Globes in 2011. It was a delicious step away from the usual black - she looks fantastic in anything, but this dress had a particularly interesting and flattering cut. Swarovski crystals give it that extra sparkle!

I'm sure noone can forget the dress that Keira Knightley wore in Atonement. The film's Costume Designer Jacqueline Durran took inspiration from vintage designs.

Most recently Kate Middleton chose this colour for the BBC Sports Awards, wearing an Alexander McQueen dress:

Robert Pattinson 'had a dream about an emerald green houndstooth suit' so he commissioned Gucci to bring his dream into reality for the most recent Twilight premiere:

Personally, I thought it was a great choice, and one that was expertly shown up by the ever fashionable Mick Jagger:

If you fancy adding just a little splash of emerald to your wardrobe, the following two nail polish colours are my personal favs:

Splurge: Butter London British Racing Green (Thames is also nice).

Save: Rimmel Forrest

Or, an emerald ring would never go astray.....one can dream....

The Golden Globes 2012

The Golden Globes are often considered to be the “younger/more fun” sister of the Oscars. The Oscars dress requires tradition, glamour and elegance. Thigh-high splits are acceptable (See Angelina Jolie’s from last year), but forget anything above the knee! The Globes then allow for a little more experimentation in style, colour, material, etc. This year may have been a little safe though and if trends are anything to go by, strapless or red dresses are definitely in! The absolute stand out for me was Jennifer Garner’s stunning Vivienne Westwood dress. Though not highlighted on the red carpet coverage, it was presented to us in full red dazzling glory when she walked out on stage. It was a perfect fit:

Notable mentions also to Kate Hudson in Alexander McQueen and Lucy Liu in Carolina Herrera.

With the "Party Dress" awards show over, it'll be interesting to see what ballgowns will appear at the Oscars!
